Objectives And Expected Outcomes

Objective 1: confirm the efficacy of SAGROPIA solutions in REPLACING chemical pesticides against the target pests.

Expected Outcome: SAGROPIA aims to quantify and compare the relative activities of 13 biocontrol solutions concerning their effectiveness in controlling target pests and diseases when compared to conventional chemical pesticides like CfS. The study will provide crucial data for assessing the performance of these alternatives and contribute valuable insights to the development of novel Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies. The results obtained will inform future decisions on environmentally sustainable and effective pest control measures in agricultural settings.

Objective 2: SUPPLY affordable biopesticides with known mode of action in market-relevant amounts

Expected results: SAGROPIA aims to upscale/formulate biopesticides, study the mode of action for solutions, and evaluate the toxicological profile of some pesticides. The goal is to achieve semi-commercial production scale and obtain consistent information for the tested solutions, contributing to the increased availability of viable alternatives.

Objective 3: develop and validate alternative SAGROPIA IPM strategies adapted to typical pest-disease complexes in key European regions.

Expected outcome: To achieve IPM strategies capable of replacing conventional chemical pesticides and reducing them by 50%. Select blueprints of improved IPM strategies for each ideotype pest/disease complex in each climatic region. The results will contribute to a more sustainable and effective approach to pest management in agriculture.

Objective 4: test and exhibit the newly developed IPM strategies in LARGE-SCALE FIELD TRIALS under realistic conditions, in agricultural practice.

Expected outcome: Execute trials on 4 farms for each crop in 5 countries over 3 years. The outcome is a comprehensive grower’s guide on best practices for implementing novel IPM strategies in sugar beet and potato cultivation, promoting the widespread adoption of sustainable pest management practices among farmers.

Objective 5: assess the overall SUSTAINABILITY (environmental, socioeconomic) of alternative IPM strategies.

Expected outcome: Provide Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for SAGROPIA IPM strategies, evaluate their absolute environmental sustainability, conduct socio-economic assessments at the farm level, and present an overall sustainability ranking. This comprehensive evaluation aims to demonstrate the safety, socio-economic benefits, and environmental friendliness of SAGROPIA’s innovative IPM solutions.
